We are delighted to announce that we were recently visited at the Shamrock Association by Lara Bizjak, Nika Kos, and Damjana Urh, representatives from Danila Lokar Elementary School in Ajdovščina. Their visit is part of the Erasmus+ KA122 project titled “Welcome to My Green Classroom,” which focuses on environmental responsibility and sustainable development.
As part of the project, the school plans 18 teacher mobility programs across the European Union in 2023 with the following objectives:
- Knowledge and Skill Development: Outdoor teaching and educational formats on environmental issues.
- Responsibility and Sustainable Development: Commitment to reducing carbon footprint and integrating environmental policies and practices into the school system.
- Role of Teachers: Emphasis on the role of teachers as agents of change in environmental attitudes.
They also visited Scoil Brehac Chluain and Eanna Scoil schools in Ireland, where they shared experiences and connected with the local community. Regarding the visit, they stated, “It was a great pleasure to connect with a Slovenian in Ireland. This adds special significance to the exchange, as she is familiar with both school systems, cultural nuances, etc. We look forward to further collaboration.”
As a token of gratitude, they gifted us Slovenian picture books and a cookbook titled “Da ne bi pozabili II” (“Lest We Forget II”), published by the Housewives’ Association of Planina near Ajdovščina. These books will be part of our new SLOVENIAN READING CORNER, where we will collect books donated to us by Slovenians from various parts.
We thank them for the inspiring meeting and look forward to preparing Slovenian dishes at our next event!
You are always warmly invited to the Shamrock Association headquarters in Annascaul, Co. Kerry!
SPECIAL THANKS FOR SUPPORTING THE ASSOCIATION GOES TO: The Government Office of the Republic of Slovenia for Slovenians Abroad.
